Growing up, my grandma always had peony bushes in her yard. I loved going to her house and seeing and smelling them.
Because of this, I will always use flowers in my branding to connect with who I am and where I came from. It also helps me connect with those who resonate with flowers and the vibrancy something so small can bring.
Using florals in branding will come and go as a trend, but they’ll remain a part of my brand, because they’re authentically me and they resonate with the type of people I want to work with no matter what the recent trend is.
In today’s market, we either want to be trend setters or trend followers. I mean, how many people started an Anchor channel just because Natalie Franke posted about it? WOWSA?!
It’s really ingrained in us to jump from trend to trend to trend and ship to ship.
The problem is that when you’re always jumping, you’re not really building a timeless brand that can withstand the changing of the trends.
We grab onto one shiny object after the other and we’re really not attached to any of them, because we’ll easily toss them aside to get the next thing.
When you brand your website or your business authentically – from a place of who you are, what you love, and what will resonate with your customers over time over and over again you won’t want to jump ship.
You won’t want the next trendy and beautiful website template, because you’ll truly love and connect with what you have.
And, when you are ready to change or it’s time to polish things up a bit, you’ll be able to take your timeless brand and your solid foundation and plug it into the next template or platform.
You’ll stop wasting time trying to figure out a “new look” every time you get a new whim or see something pretty someone else has, because you’ll have dug deep into what your brand is about and how to transfer that message into your visuals.
It’s cool to be trendy, but it’s even better to be a timeless brand that moves alongside the trends and understands them.
Well, look back to the story about my grandma’s peonies. You start by digging deep into your authenticity as a brand.
