We all have people in our industry that we look up to and aspire to be.

I mean, who doesn’t think Jenna Kutcher, Katelyn James, or Jasmine Starr are amazing leaders with powerful messages? I for one fall more in love with each of these women each time I come across their trainings and the massive amount of FREE content that they share – I can’t even begin to imagine how valuable it would be to take one of their paid courses. I have a few that I have been keeping my eye on for awhile now!

Experts are there to give us advice and guide us. We love them for it and we learn a ton from them. BUT, if we don’t follow our own heart and make things work with our lives and business, there can be a huge disconnect and we can end up really unhappy.

If we don’t connect with or aren’t passionate about what we are doing, we can end up feeling like imposters. We start trying to be them instead of us. I have fallen into this trap too many times to even admit. I kept thinking that if I just tried to be a bit more like them (experts in my field) OR follow the advice exactly as someone was leading me or coaching on how to do things, that then and only then would my business succeed. What I found was I was listening and leaning WAY too far! However, the one person I was not listening to was myself and my heart. I found myself with a brand and target market that didn’t align with where I wanted to be and what I wanted to be providing. Ugh! So this lead to two different brand launches in one year! I know that this is crazy and I really didn’t want or plan for this to happen this way, but it was the result of not staying in tune with who I was and what I could provide best.

It’s totally okay to soak in all of their greatness and wisdom (I still do it ALL the time), but that doesn’t mean we have to morph into being them OR what they are saying is the end all be all!

Voices surround us. They’re telling us to do this and do that and switch this and switch that. Sometimes, we need to do those things.

Other times, we need to get quiet, really dig into who we are, why we’re doing the things we’re doing, and how we can translate that into a business model or brand that works for our lives. (using all of the amazing tools provided by the greats – in our own way!)

When I finally broke free from the circle that I was in – over and over only listening to others who I thought knew me best – was when I did the work on my own brand. I set out to create a workbook to help my clients put meaning into the brand they were wanting to launch. I wanted their heart and passion to show in all that they did – and that meant to me that THEY had to be of the brand we were creating.

Grab my workbook, Design Your Authentic Brand, and start digging into your true purpose and passion and how to transfer that into your brand:
